I'm not in the vicinity of Dunnes Stores very often, but when I am, there's an essential purchase.

I rented a room in a nicely renovated Victorian terraced house in Ranelagh for £35 a week. If you tell that to students today, they throw things at you.

So many deets on that corner-of-death. Before the grit of Carnival it was the nauseatingly Tiger-coded Nasdaq, and before that, good old Clarke's. Clarke's had a high tolerance for letting you buy three pints at closing time to sit over them, an essential service to me and my 1995 housemates.

Great to see a decent option on that corner again. On a point of history, it had been a music-led venue before: immediately before AtG it was Carnival. If you were at college on Kevin or Aungier Street, your classmates' short-lived band would have played upstairs.

Molson Coors strike again!

Their Nipponia IPA is one of my favourites. I've only seen this one and the White Ale around here recently, though.

I regularly show a different one at the gate to what I booked with. Some airlines won't accept bookings using a passport card, but at the gate, my card is handier than holding open a booklet. The number is completely different on both, so the systems don't appear to be joined up.

I'm convinced we will look back on social media and its impact on mental health the same way we look back on child chimney sweeps and tapeworm diet pills.

Post by Alcohol Action Ireland: "New research shows that watching influencers drink alcohol in social media posts increases young people’s desire to drink. The study found that participants who perceived influencers as highly credible had dramatically greater odds of wanting to drink."

Watching some gobdaw fawning over a pint of medicore industrial stout in a Dublin tourist trap would turn you to drink all right.

The Pearse Lyons Distillery, Dublin. At the centre is the former St James's Church, with a modern office building to one side and a terrace of shops converted into tasting rooms on the other.

Signage on the office building says "Pearse Lyons at St. James".

I like that Alltech turned a derelict lighting showroom into a functioning whiskey distillery in central Dublin, but the "at St. James" signage bugs me every time. Would it have killed them to put 's on the end of that?
