"Pint bottles off the shelf", at Libertine, Dublin. They only have Guinness, though. For shame!

The interior. They've spent a bit on this. New partitions have turned a fairly open-plan L-shaped pub into something that feels altogether grander. The '90s-vintage mahogany bar has been replaced by a pale-oak-and-white-ceramics job.
Pint of Scraggy Bay.
Last weekend it was the former Against the Grain. Today it's the former 57 The Headline. My ghost will likely haunt both.
06.03.2026 16:16 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Yeah, the bottles arrived recently.
06.03.2026 15:45 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah, the North is a whole other deal; a legacy from when they were the biggest beer producer up there. Down here, they're a big "cider" plant with beer tacked onto the side and hoping for the best.
06.03.2026 15:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Never liked them myself, but for a worrying amount of people, I&G Original was the gateway into actually-good beer.
06.03.2026 15:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Doubt it. It was last tried fairly recently and didn't fly. We don't get Whitewater, Heverlee or much by way of Tennent's either.

05.03.2026 22:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So, this is a stupid joke based on the fact that The Irish Times's pseudonymous business commentary column is called "Cantillon" for reasons far too boring to go into, but unrelated to the Brussels lambic brewery. Today, the column mentioned BrewDog's takeover by Tillray Brands.
You won't often find BrewDog and Cantillon in the same newspaper article. As far as I know, they never collaborated.

Breton brewery Nautile is on a tour of Ireland at the moment. Catch their tap takeovers at @thewhitehag.bsky.social on Friday 6th March (tomorrow!) and at Brickyard, Dundrum on Saturday 7th.

I don't normally go in for pretty pub pictures, but you may find me standing here on the virtual Ponte Santa Fosca in Venice, gazing at Il Santo Bevitore, for some time.
