Day 1 drawing Extinct Aquatic Creatures as part of Ngabuburit activities during Ramadhan.
3/4 front view of my spirifer 3d model, still a work in progress. It shows the inside of the ventral mantle since the ventral shell is removed the mantle itself is 'cut' in half to show the inside of the visceral mass, the blobby bits at the center of the soft body that contains all the organs like the gut and muscles
side view of the spirifer 3d model, showing just the outline of the shell without the visceral mass
Starting to regret my decision to cover their internal musculature as well...

02.02.2026 15:56 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Submitted for the ilustra.see competition last year. This was an experiment on depicting Paleontology with Wayang kulit, a traditional shadow puppet art form from my country. Here a scene reminiscent of my City, Surabaya's founding myth is depicted, but instead of a shark fighting a crocodile, it is a Permian Spiny shark fighting an early armored sea reptile. Surrounding them are brachiopods, tabulate corals, and horn corals found throughout Permian strata in Java and Timor, while the Gunungans in the back have a simple wavy pattern to indicate the scene is taking place underwater. The wayang cutouts are drawn in Photoshop, imported as transparent PNG objects in Blender and rendered in Cycles to achieve the shadow puppet look
Wayang purbakala
The iconic myth from my hometown (a shark fighting a crocodile) depicted as Javanese wayang shadow puppets of Permian animals.

3D model of a generic spiriferid Brachiopod. It superficially looks like a clam where the sides of the shell tapers into points But Brachiopods are Lophophorates, not molluscs

Calyx/cup of Archaeocrinus, it has ten arms that fork twice. The center of the cup has a raised funnel where the anal sac is.

My favorite part of the museum are these dried specimen in one room They are discolored but the forms still look beautiful and they're placed inside a glass box with black colored backgrounds
The black colored backgrounds they chose to display the crab specimens really contrast their pale white carapace and highlights their forms
