It might feel so unlikely but you really can just put a bucket in the ground and a frog will lay spawn in it. My neighbour is thrilled, we put this in for her a couple of years ago. @rspb.bsky.social @froglife.bsky.social @arc-trust.bsky.social πŸ“Έ hers

Agapanthus stalks and β€œskeletons” against a blue sky.

Agapanthus stalks and β€œskeletons” against a blue sky.

Before you cut everything back to make the garden look β€œneat” β€” pause.
Right now in Ireland and the UK, many insects are still overwintering inside last year’s hollow stems.
Most don’t emerge until temps are regularly above ~10–12Β°C (often late March–April).

β€œTidy” can mean destroying shelter. πŸŒ±πŸ¦‹

Did u know? I don't like talking/ featuring in my wildlife gardening posts, but I've just found out about the copyright issues of using the music option available on Instagram(my other platform),so my new posts are going to have to feature my dulcet tones & not Bruce Springsteen's... aplogiesπŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸͺ²

If there were any disagreements, we'd all sort it out over a cup of tea & a slice of victoria sponge....or maybe chocolate cake πŸ«–πŸ°

Did u know? Hairy-Footed Flower bees are on the wing. Here's how to accommodate these big floofy beauties in your outside space. 1: Plant food plants - Pulmonaria or leave your Dandelions 3: Build a mud cob nesting brick from water, mud, sand & straw. 4: Put it in the sun & watch them come. πŸŒ±πŸŒΏπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸͺ²πŸŒπŸ

You're right George. I've just put my Red Mason bee pupae outside (they were in my fridge, before) There should be enough forage in bloom for them now. 🀞

I found a similar site where birds had eaten Banded Demoiselle Damselflies - hundreds of wings left.

Did u know? You needn't get the ick if you accidentally dig something unusual up in your garden, like this handsome Ghost moth πŸ› (they live on roots of weeds for 2 years, until they're heavy enough to pupate, then turn into an adult)Just gently cover them back up to complete their lifecycle. πŸŒ±πŸŒΏπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸ›πŸ¦‹πŸͺ²πŸŒ
