Brown was tried for treason, murder, and inciting a slave insurrection. He was found guilty on all charges and hanged - being the first person executed for treason in the United States.

On this day in 1859, abolitionist John Brown was executed by the Commonwealth of Virginia for the raid he led on the federal armory at Harpers Ferry two months prior. Brown intended to use weapons from the armory to initiate a slave uprising throughout the South. 🧵

The world changed with the October Revolution. It ushered in a new historical period: the era of the revolutionary transition from capitalism to socialism. The class struggle and the battle for democracy continues. Long live the legacy of the October Revolution!
