10.08.2025 13:19 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Such a fun project & massive team effort. We sampled tree cores my 1st yr of grad school then took a year to figure out how to grind woodโฆ ! But we were amazed to find such a complex & unexpected ecosystem inside trees. And weโve just scratched the surface! We explored 150 treesโ 3 trillion to go!

But what about all of themโtogether?
Our new framework predicts how animals of all shapes and sizes act within their communities to influence elemental distribution on landscapes.

Trees are more than just plantsโthey host distinct and highly specialized microbial communities within their wood.

โThis budget is a recipe for ending the US' leadership in science. It would do generational damage by forcing labs to shut down, with a corresponding loss of highly trained individuals and one-of-a-kind research materials.โ
