I'd say a few more things but I feel as though that's invasive to Minty's privacy. All I can say is that I did take time to talk to her about it which is something that can't be said for most others in this thread, outside of her partner.

We can use words like "vague" or whatever for the ToS but as I told someone before the artist told them to expect an update which implies the artist would say something first. Practicing patience is nice in any situation.

No offense or anything but this is still on OP for purchasing and agreeing to the ToS. Even if they "don't agree with the practices" they aren't a victim. Ask about terms prior to purchasing, don't step on the artist's boundaries.

Like I don't get it. You're all nitpicking her ToS but ignore a clear bit of communication. And honestly being told you'll get an update + having a ToS that states to give an artist space go pretty hand-in-hand. Nothing about it is "vague" in this context. Holy hell.

And this is where the issue really lies, in my opinion. It's a nothing behavior that could have waited until the week ended. Instead OP comes in asking the artist for an update instead of waiting. If the artist says "Expect an update" that usually means the ARTIST WILL CONTACT THEM FIRST.

... Then why message the artist with what is essentially nothing......? What do you get from that? If the artist explicitly tells you to expect an update then that alone tells you to wait.

Maybe it's because you don't frequently buy commissions and maybe I'm a broken record here but asking within a week of getting a commission AND asking the day after a national holiday is still really awful.

Yeah and when the artist made a one week pushback their decisions are called "harsh" and "unprofessional". How is she supposed to feel? Again, a two week wait for a commission isn't even offensive.

Artist has stated in private that the OP went completely silent for over 24+ hours, OP didn't apologize or try to reach any form of understanding, and OP was also first to block and make the callout post.

I don't want to hear about "spiteful" behavior.

Unfortunately an artist isn't aware of this until someone points it out. So again, things fall onto the client. If you want "universal understanding" it requires trial and error. Especially if an artist who doesn't have English as their first language.

Once again, I am asking:
Can you explain in full how pushing back a commission that was ONE WEEK old by another week is some sort of harsh punishment? Two weeks for a commission isn't bad and really emphasizes how impatient OP is, by the way.

OP even states it themself that they were waiting ONE WEEK before asking. Artist pushes it back to another week. Honestly if you can't wrap around how 2 weeks is generous from an artist when again, art can take over a year to complete at times...

Also can you PLEASE explain how waiting an extra week is a form of punishment? I usually leave artists to do their own thing because I don't know what their lives are like so I'd like a proper explanation how an extra seven days is so critical here.

Artist explicitly told the person that they were going to get it done "by next week". I don't know what to tell you but asking on a Thursday, the day after Christmas is really weird.

I agree that waiting until the week has ended would have been appropriate.
