This is a book review I had never seen before of the book I edited, NEPANTLA FAMILIAS. Thank you, Josh Cook, for a thoughtful read and review. Texas A&M University Press tells me it's a bestseller!

I remember my mother today and I miss her. One of the last photos of Bertha Estela Troncoso in her kitchen in Ysleta, a Mexican immigrant who had a near-photographic memory, who cared for her family sometimes at the cost of her own health, and who was an inspiration as a moral force in our family. ♥️

Thank you Harvard/Radcliffe Raza for inviting me to give a talk and to answer questions from members! Raza was so important to my surviving Harvard as a poor Mexican American student from the border. Always give back to your community to help the next generation to empower themselves.

Please encourage friends to stop by for a talk on my literary work, being a poor kid from the Mexican American border at Harvard, with only Eagles and Led Zeppelin t-shirts, becoming a writer, and surviving to tell that and many other stories!

Friday, 3-28, 6:00 PM

Rest in peace, Jimmy Carter. When I was seventeen in 1978, I wrote a paper analyzing Carter’s presidential campaign victory in 1976. I liked that he was a farmer from rural Georgia, which appealed to me in Ysleta. I admired the work he did even more after leaving the White House. What a good man.

Fronteras: ‘Nepantla Familias’ explores identity, hybridity of the Mexican American experience "Nepantla Familias" compiles 30 poems, short stories, and essays from Mexican American authors to highlight what it means to live between two cultures, families, and languages.

I recently did an interview on the anthology I edited, NEPANTLA FAMILIAS, for Texas Public Radio. It's probably one of the best radio/podcast interviews I've given on this book and the concepts behind my work. I hope you enjoy it. #texas
