02.07.2025 13:16 — 👍 2 🔁 2 💬 1 📌 0By tracking performance against the "I Statements" over time we can help the Government understand if their reforms are actually delivering for people.
Over time we want the Gov itself to be tracking performance in this way.
We wanted to do this snap poll to provide a baseline of how NHS is doing on the "I Statements" at the point the 10 Yr Plan is published.
From what we've heard to date, Gov is keen on patient power, more agency + choice and using outcomes rather than output as the measure of success. All good stuff.
🆕 It’s good news that the government has promised to review the unfair GP funding formula. Read @becksfisher.bsky.social’s thoughts about this in @theguardian.com.
Our full statement on the announcement is here: www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-item/gp...
On that last I Statement about fair and inclusive, the polling also revealed ethnic minorities 3x more likely to say they didn't feel treated with dignity and respect than people of white ethnicity.

- I can stay healthy and manage my health in a way that works for me
- I can access the high quality and effective care I need, when and where I need it
- My care is integrated around my needs and wishes, and I am listened to
- I am treated in a fair and inclusive way, irrespective of who I am
For those who don't remember the I Statements the DHSC used, i have set them out below.
These were drawn from work done by @nationalvoices.bsky.social + @tlap.bsky.social
Using them showed real willingness to consider the challenges in health and care from the perspective users.
A slide showing the how well supported people feel by the NHS the manage their physical and mental health conditions. The results are broken down by people with long-term conditions and people without. On physical health, 37% of people with a long-term condition say they feel not very/not at all supported by the NHS to manage their physical health. This compares to 19% of people without a long-term condition. On mental health, 40% of people with a long-term condition say they feel not very/not at all supported by the NHS to manage their mental health. This compares to 20% of people without a long-term condition.
@nationalvoices.bsky.social + @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social have been asking about people's experiences of NHS + how they align with the 4 "I Statements" used by @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social to frame development of the 10 Yr Plan.
Some big differences emerging for people with Long-Term Conditions.
It was a great thing to be able to host this conversation. ‘Plans don’t change things, people do’, ‘get the basics right’, ‘get local’ and ‘intentionally hear all voices’ and ‘you can’t deal with the NHS in a vacuum from social care’ - wise words from all the panelists!!

Good luck everyone!
Yeah but the integration index has actually been developed and in the testing it showed some really useful insights that were both actionable for local services and shed light on how well integrated services actually feel for people. The risk is is lands at the wrong time to gain traction.

Agree with every word in this comment piece from @jacoblant.bsky.social from @nationalvoices.bsky.social. Good care means not that you can get your diabetic foot amputated quickly, but that you don't need that amputation in the first place. Hence, system working!

We set the scene for the scale of the admin challenge in the NHS, and the impact it’s having on patient experience, perceptions of waste in the NHS and affecting future health seeking behaviour.
At the NHS England Cancer Improvement Collaborative event this AM talking all about the work they’ve been doing to improve admin! I’m sharing the findings of @nationalvoices.bsky.social @healthwatchengland.bsky.social @thekingsfund.bsky.social joint “Lost in the System” report.
Check out the view!
Great panel on women’s health at @hsj.co.uk inequalities conf.
Lots of love on panel for #healthwatch - whether it’s Louise talking about brilliant work done nationally on access to maternal mental health checks to the local network helping Trusts and ICBs gather insight on huge range of issues.
Also great to have so many @nationalvoices.bsky.social members on the agenda for the day:

@itsgroundswell.bsky.social and Macmillan Cancer Support
Friends @healthwatchengland.bsky.social @nhs-rho.bsky.social and Prof Bola Owolabi also on the stage!
- shift the money flow and how staff are deployed so we address the inverse care law, which Lord Darzi said in his review last year is still very real.
- tap in to patient agency and self-management, but acknowledge that this isn’t equitable and that not everyone starts in the same place.
Was an absolute pleasure to speak this morning at the @hsj.co.uk Reducing Health Inequalities conf.
Got to speak about the #NHS10YrPlan and my hopes that it will:
- ensure demographic breakdowns are routinely provided on NHS stats so performance on inequalities is impossible to ignore.
ICBs to look at these things together and see where they can improve, working in partnership with people with lived experience and their communities. :)

I was pleasantly surprise by that too. Time will tell what it means in practice, especially with staffing cuts in ICBs, but it’s a good sign. Also positive to see health inequalities on the list of growth areas for ICBs as well. If only someone had produced some sort of self-assessment tool kit for

I’d a third, which is an unwillingness or unresponsiveness from services when errors or gaps are highlighted to them. It’s almost as if the record is believed over the patient at times, when the system should work with patients to fix problems when they are identified.
1 in 4 patients find errors in their medical records!
Sadly getting these errors/gaps fixed can be a nightmare + places burden solely on patients, when the NHS should be looking to work with people to fix this.

In a time when all other bills are rising, it’s vital that the NHS keeps medication affordable for all - to treat conductions and help people stay well! So this announcement is very welcome!

Yesterday the UK Supreme Court made a big judgement about the definition of sex under the Equalities Act. This has created a climate of uncertainty, confusion and fear among trans member orgs and friends regarding how the NHS will act on this and whether they will continue to get the care they need.
