I recall at the time of that Wheelock-grounded course getting a Wheelock companion "Latin reader" book on my own. Is that at all aligned with the other approaches?

Then Wheelock was the core textbook, and the instructor was semi-apologetic about that, but said it was still the best introductory book available. Amazing that continues to be the case, 50+ years later.

I took a year of Latin in college to prepare this raised Presbyterian boy for a year long intensive course in Medieval and Renaissance music (which was cancelled).

Seeing Jimmy Kimmel as the sidekick on "Win Ben Stein's Money" and thinking, "He could carry a show." Same thing when I saw John Fugelsang as the sidekick on the short lived CNBC talk show hosted by John McEnroe.
