Photo of Ambessa: Chosen of the Wolf by C. L. Clark. The cover art features Ambessa, a frightening (complimentary), powerful woman with dark skin and curly hair, wearing a red cloak and surrounded by swirling red flames. In the background are tall, stylized city structures under a cloudy sky.

Black-and-white book cover for The Rising Dark by Celia Thorn. The cover depicts two women standing close together in an intimate pose in a shadowy urban alley. One woman, with long hair in a ponytail, leans in towards the other and touches her face. She holds a sword between them. The title text β€œTHE RISING DARK” appears at the bottom.

Didn't have to be anything you read this year specifically, bad wording on my part! But ended up going with Regicide since it's something I likely wouldn't have picked up on my own πŸ™‚

It's still a steep price for a book, imo, but yeah seems about the same for physical books here! And it astonishes me even ebook now tend to sell for almost as much as a physical copy (generally, and if trad pub and bought on the usual retailers), though I'm sure there's a reason?

"The greatest tales are told over and over, in many ways, through centuries. Fantasy changes with the changing times, and yet it is still the oldest kind of tale in the world, for it began once upon a time, and we haven't heard the end of it yet."
