🚨 New Mexico - the Government shutdown is upon us.

Funding delays can have devastating impacts on survivors. Local programs are reliant on federal funding and have minimal cash reserves. Even a few weeks of a funding delay equals reduced services, layoffs, and eventually program closures.

By investing in community-led solutions, we're not just preventing harm, but we are creating stronger communities as a whole.

Thank you New Mexico Department of Health for introducing these funds into our communities and investing in both intervention and prevention!

A quote by Jess Michaels "We will not stop until survivors voices shape justice, transform culture, and define the future."

In light of ongoing news about sexual violence, it's incredibly important to keep the stories & wisdom of survivors as the focus.

This isn't just a moment, but a movement for healing & justice.

We are grateful to the NM State Legislature, NM Department of Health, and everyone who makes this work possible ❀️

Not engaging with the data as a whole prevents us from focusing on real solutions that address the root causes of sexual violence in our state. Misuse of the data risks perpetuating the very harm that the survey shows is experienced by so many New Mexicans of all genders.

While the Crime Victimization report found that more than half of people in NM have experienced sexual violence, it also found that transgender New Mexicans were 3X more likely to have experienced sexual violence than cisgender people. 4/6

We want broad access to the data, but it's imperative that it is cited correctly, not removed from its context in an attempt to weaponize and politicize survivors while attacking transgender communities. 3/6

NMCSAP commissioned the NM Crime Victimization Report to have a more robust understanding of the crisis of sexual violence. Data that accurately reflects the realities of our communities is one component of addressing harm from a public health approach. 2/6

We welcome the use of this data in policy making, but the stat was used to implied trans women pose a danger to cis women which is harmful, untrue, & not supported by the report.
