I still can’t believe how mad people got at Malone for “missing” on Jay Huff lmfao

Maybe I’m wrong and WotC wont start designing stupidly pushed hybrid mana cards once this commander change happens but I doubt it. They design cards to sell, and the number of decks hybrid mana cards can go in will explode after the change. They’re absolutely going to design cards to sell in there.

For me it was a mix of: yeah it’s becoming a magic set, but also multiple friends have been telling me I’d love it for years and it’s very, very bingeable.

It’s not… until they can designing hybrid for decks it can’t currently go in. That will fundamentally change how they design rare/mythic hybrid cards.

Idk. Maybe they won’t even make the change. I just don’t think giving them an excuse to print even more busted cards than they’re currently inclined to print is a good idea

I can see them doing anything if they think it’ll sell sealed product. Vivi never should’ve been printed with that zero mana ability and Gavin Verhey basically admitted the only reason it was finalized that way was because it would be a more fun commander

And you’re either being argumentative or naive if you think they won’t start pushing these cards if they can sell them to more commander players than they can right now

Yeah being able to leave specific mana up for specific cards you want to play after playing Jace or Yawgs wouldn’t have any impact on those games if they were magically legally again

They’re trying to force a change to commander that will allow hybrid cards into way more decks than they’re currently allowed in. That will completely change how they design hybrid mana cards.

They’re pretty clearly less concerned with balance than they are selling cards to commander players. That’s the only reason Vivi’s ability was 0 mana instead of tap.

Giving them another way to print broken cards into standard is a bad idea & all the broken cards they already print is proof enough

And imagine giving Jace dimir or azorius pips instead of UU and yawgmoth’s will a golgari pip instead of B

That’s my point. This change would make it easier to print easier-to-cast Vivi. And they will absolutely print easier-to-cast Vivi if this change goes through. Giving them another way to print easy-to-cast broken cards is not a good thing IMO.

It will make those cards easier to cast.

Imagine a broken multi color card or single color double pip card. Now imagine those cards being easier to cast.

It’s not unless they start designing pushed hybrid mana cards to sell to commander players. It’ll make broken cards even easier to cast. If you can’t see how that’s bad for standard idk what to tell you

Im sure they do. I’m also sure that a Vivi-esque standard warping card will be printed again to sell sealed product to commander players (and collectors to a lesser extent). But this time Vivi will be hybrid mana, which means it’ll be easier to cast and therefore more broken just on its face.

That’s the point. The way it is now is fine. If they push this change through they’re going to start designing cracked cards that commander players want and those cards will be cracked in standard too.

You can’t convince me that they won’t do this after they printed Vivi primarily for commander

They’re not going to be weaker if they push this change through, though. They’re going to be designed to sell.

I have an idea to fix standard and make Hasbro money.

Stop designing for commander in standard legal sets.

Only make 3 standard legal
Sets a year.

Make as many commander sets as you want. Hell, put out one every week.

Sure but most hybrid cards are designed for limited and if they push this change through the amount they design for commander will explode and that will be bad for (paper/mtgo) standard.

Top Level podcast is back and they pointed out that there are several Avatar lessons that will be cracked in pauper as soon as they come out if your deck can cast Pop Quiz.

The ONLY reason they want to do this is to sell more cards. Has nothing to do with anything else whatever they say.

That would make commander players happy and be a huge first step toward fixing standard

But if you keep the hybrid mana restriction in commander that’s one less way WotC can screw up standard when they’re designing commander cards in a standard set.

If they do that, they will absolutely be designing hybrid cards for commander.
