Although I’m also the person who almost walked out of the last one when they had space horses riding on the outside of ships so who knows, maybe I just like Air Force movies

I mean we already know that that doesn’t actually matter in Star Wars. Now if they tried that shit in Star Trek…

The space bombers were really cool though and definitely something that fits in with Star Wars (the 1977 movie) more than basically anything since 1980

Gonna have to argue with calling that person a streaker though

Eva Marie was such a perfect character for that era of NXT because they knew exactly what would piss the crowd off the most

I’m having a hard time thinking of a wrestler, men or women, who shows up for big matches like Mercedes/sasha. She has another gear she goes into for PPVs

Fun(ish) fact: In the book version of Dr. No, a guano mining operation is Dr. No's cover for what he's actually up to on the island. Ian Fleming seems to love talking about the stuff.

Doing this because there’s nowhere to go but down from the LeBron/Elon comparison. Smart.

Album sales are usually a bit more solid, just because the album charts were typically built around sales rather than play, but then you get weird things like you got at medium by medium. CD albums look really weird if you take a look at some of the bestsellers.

So the thing about singles especially is that it was all self-reported up until the 90s. So while singles charts from the 60s are probably a good indicator of success, singles sales from the pre-sound scan era are basically useless

Do you know (or do you have the source) if it includes Greatest Hits packages? I know Jackson (and now his estate) have always been pretty bad at putting out collections, which, before streaming, may have been the thing to put him over. In the age of streaming no one is changing those top 2.

And that’s (almost) entirely due to sexism and racism.

(It was a good piece, I think I read it when it came out)

I made this point in another thread but the only group that had anything remotely close to the amount of hits The Beatles had in the 60s were The Supremes who never get talked about as being on THAT level

20.11.2025 20:41 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

I agree with you 100 percent. But I also think it obfuscates the point to say that an artist should be the single biggest of all time. There are plenty of Black artists who didn’t get to be as successful as even like The Lovin’ Spoonful, because an entire industry was against them

20.11.2025 20:39 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

What metrics? The only metric I’m looking at is total sales. Jackson is number 2, although average album sales might slightly favor him (haven’t done that math)

I thought I blocked you before when you were on about something else dumb as hell. My mistake

No one is saying this

20.11.2025 20:33 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Honestly, the best example to use for this argument would The Supremes, who were the only band that could even claim to have the same amount of chart success as The Beatles in the 60s and yet never ever get mentioned with them

20.11.2025 20:32 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

See this makes sense to me but again, The Beatles are the biggest band to ever exist. Even if you hate them or are indifferent to them, to say anyone should be the single biggest thing ever isn’t a good comparison.

20.11.2025 20:30 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Those would be better comparisons, because they are wildly successful (although in terms of sales so much of Pink Floyd is tied up in one album) but they aren’t the single most successful band ever. I think you can say that there are plenty of Black artists who didn’t get the chances they did

Further, Charles was able to break through with mainstream audiences in a way that very few Black entertainers were at the time. We have record sales and airplay charts from that time, as well as critical praise, that show this.
