On the flip side, the first reaciton to marathon was incredibly positive, you could chalk that up to it being a bungie game but it's pretty clear to me that despite being *yet another* extraction shooter, people were excited for marathon because of it's 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 not the gameplay

the highguard devs suspecting the game failed because it leaned too far into 'competitive play' just shows this massive disconnect between those making these games and the consumers of them.

Everyone thought highguard looked bad from the trailer, without having any idea what the gameplay felt like
