Though, now I suspect that such scenes are usually embarrassingly badly written (and sometimes pronounced/acted) when shown to native speakers.

An idea I had: an app that uses clips of a language being spoken in popular films (or tv) as a way to onboard people to being conversational in that language.

Because I was watching Clear and Present Danger night before last & there was a scene in spanish that I sadly only understood about 10% […]

@blogdiva @MastodonEngineering Given that they already support OEmbedding of mastodon posts, I assume the option was on the table & was discussed. (I don't want to speculate, so I'll let someone from the project track down the deciding factor.)

Me, cursing at zoom this morning: "No! Fuck off with your red fucking dots. How do I kill you?" ... i swear, the rule shouldn't be that every software project ends up being an email inbox. It should be that every enterprise product tries to become a "productivity suite".

@xankarn @kf I feel like Betteridge's Law of Headlines needs some refinement in the modern age. When no one reads the article, the headline's question advances a worldview divorced from whatever the article might actually say.

@timbray It's a protected DNS service. It attempts to block malicious servers at the DNS level. Fast, unobtrusive, and generally works great.

Except it keeps flagging macports servers as malware, and they won't tell me why (maybe I should email, they probably don't check notifications on @cira )

Ah! Ah hah. I've finally sorted out why the water argument against data centres baffles me. The answer?

NestlΓ©.

Rainwater rights.

Fuck them and the capitalist dreadnought they sailed in on. And if you're complaining about AI for water waste, you better also go for NestlΓ© for water theft.

So what does Tesla's road to recovery look like?

Here's what I think it would take:

1. Completely removing Musk from the org - ideally, even as a shareholder
2. Taking some time to fix QC issues
3. Discontinuing Cybertruck, or spinning it off into its own thing
4. Delivering an affordable […]

But it's also common for finance guys to be a herd of big dumb idiots that follow anything that moves in any direction, so this guy's move could be the permission they needed to start taking their money back […]

I've unfollowed @arstechnica because their parent company, CondΓ© Nast, fired critical journalists at Teen Vogue.

I would like to see them rehired, or for CondΓ© Nast to aid them in starting an independent publication for their work (if the journalists are interested in that).

In Canada, @gandersocial.bsky.social’s equity crowdfund is really resonating.

It turns out that people want Canadian owned and run social media.

Very excited to see this!

This is a bit bad (but will be fixed before release!).

On the other hand, this also sort of makes sense within mastodon's implementation of DMs (which are NOT private messages, they are posts to the accounts that are mentioned/specified), and in this case doing a QT ends up getting counted as a […]

Heidi Klum was Medusa for Halloween. See the photos. Heidi Klum donned green scales and squirming snakes to transform herself into Medusa for Halloween on Friday.

"Heidi Klum was Medusa for Halloween. See the photos."

Did a Gorgon write that headline? A siren? I'm not falling for that one again!

...

...

I fell for it. (It's rather tremendous, actually.)

@sean ah ha! victory! This tool was very helpful. I needed to add a TXT/SPF record for the subdomain that the server was calling itself ... and that TXT record couldn't reference any other domains that happened to point back at it, or else it would create an infinite recursion. 🀦
