A fridge is a death of a romantic interest, usually a woman, to further the story of another character. This death was done now to give Moiraine the motivation to severely injure and scare off Lanfear.

I know that, but she doesn't die until the last battle. This was a classic fridge to push forward Moiraine's story, and a poor choice considering the choice to canonise their relationship post-pillowfriendship.

Spoilers for The Wheel of Time S3 finale, but you'd think that as a queer person, Rafe Lee Judkins would know better than to brutalise and fridge a black lesbian. It's really soured my enjoyment of the show and I'm hugely disappointed.
