It’s easier to hide behind the guise of NATSEC and hide in their little bunker all while not being challenged on their work by their peers. It’s a scientific superiority complex.

I can guarantee if I was a scientist working on this in secret I would feel a whole lot different about the topic as a whole. That’s the issue isn’t it? If it wasn’t so empirically wonderful they would probably be a lot more open to the idea of disclosure to the rest of the (scientific) world.
