A poster for an upcoming LGBTQIA+ community party on Gadigal land. The top of the poster says “ALL DAY QUEER DANCE” in black capital letters. There is also the words JAN 1 in white letters. On a gay pink background, a cartoon abstract figure, with distorted legs and arms dances with curls depicting hands with their arms in the air and legs with blobby shapes for feet depicting the figure is dancing. There is a sun figure on the top left of the image. The bottom of the poster features a white strip of in information. The times listed are two pm till midnight, as it is a 10 hour party. This event has been running on Gadigal Land for 4 years. It was born as a step to rebuilding night time culture in a depleted scene. The lock out laws and lock down laws had a devastating toll on night clubs and bars. “Late Night Queer Dance” was the initial iteration of this event, which still runs concurrently in Sydney. This is the after- hours sister of All Day Queer Dance. LNQD had a strict set of parameters in its first year. Namely, it was unadvertised. the party opened at midnight, it was free to subscribers, and its dj selectors and hosts were drawn from the queer community. The first venue proved to be a successful take over of a straight bar rock n roll venue. What is known colloquially as “the queerification of ruins” many in community we’re stepping into the venue go the first time. There was an agreement by tbe security guards on duty to keep the venue safe on the frontlines, the entry to the venue, and the promoters would take care of the dance floor and socialising lounges and bathrooms. This worked perfectly until a change in management meant a new security team were employed. Sadly these guards lacked the compassion and care of the previous team. Their behaviour was homophobic & aggressive. Patrons felt unsafe. Security are meant to protect patrons, not intimidate & bully. Management didn’t care, so the Queer Dance party was to leave the venue for kinder safer spaces

The three are on a mission to keep Gadigal queer and enjoyable. They have a long history of running events for community. Kelly is responsible for San Francisco’s Swagger Like Us party. Locally he has the fabulous underwear party Leak Your Own Nudes and Gallery Muse. jonny founded queer iconic event Club Kooky, Queerbourhood and is resident the the Trough party in Naarm. Thom co-created the.Queer PowerPoint Point event and the sensational Sublet Party.The three bring a positive, inclusive, intergenerational, post gender and open genre energy tonal of their events. Their events are always free for Indigenous queer mob and Trans Women of Colour, but access is always available to those short of funds. This photo was taken at a previous A.D.Q.D. Their next party is on New Years Day at the iconic Newtown Hotel. Now the venue is no longer in corporate hands, and is queer owned and operated. Sadly most venues catering to the LGBTIQA+ community and conglomerates with no profits going back into the community. Even worse, there are festivals Mighty Hoopla, owned by Zionist corporations.
