It seems to be a self-reinforcing cycle. I don't think you can be impressed by what these things produce if you have any understanding of or respect for it. They can only make Content.

I only played solo and had fun, but I don't think that's typical. Everyone says full squads are really great though, and that's almost certainly the only way to do the end game content.

It feels great to play and I think will probably slot really cleanly into the roguelite “I want to play a game in 20 minute intervals” mode. Gear is extremely disposable but I will probably have a thermal scope in my vault that is just for looking at.

Bungie has absolutely set the expectation that other players are extremely dangerous. I think the culture of these games emerges organically and its not mature enough to know how those kinds of truces will form, but the tools to trust other players are given to you.

Marathon is unfortunately really fun. I've heard it framed as a pvp roguelite, and I think that lens is useful for approaching it. The gameplay loop is really well integrated into the game's themes and I like learning about this world. I guess I enjoy curating a little lootbox for other players.
