Text from NYT Op-ed:

At the same time, America is becoming synonymous with dangerous randomness. The constitutional system is in collapse. The legislative branch, made up of both Democrats and Republicans, is missing in action. The Supreme Court debates the legal equivalent of how many angels can fit on the head of a pin, while the legal order that has held the country together for 250 years sputters toward an ignominious end. Nobody knows what America is anymore β€” not Americans, not their enemies, not their friends.

Coming to terms with this reality has not been easy in Canada. American exceptionalism is a hell of a drug; it’s hard to break the habit of thinking of Americans as the good guys. For Canadians, what is unfolding in Minnesota and elsewhere is happening to our friends, our neighbors, our colleagues, our kin β€” it is happening to people we love and understand better than anybody. But β€œthe rupture,” as Mr. Carney calls it, is nothing more than seeing clearly. Today, it’s America that poses a threat to our freedom and democracy. Not China. Not Russia. America.

From writer @stephenmarche.bsky.social, proud Canadian, on what the current despot rule of the US has meant for Canada and the world.

(Also note his nomenclature for the US.)

One by one, Europeans mentioned in the Epstein files who still hold political office are beginning to resign or are being forced out of office.

Meanwhile, ruled by an administration almost entirely made up of Epstein associates, the US carries on as if nothing really happened.

Years ago, Bill Ayersβ€”yes, the former Weathermanβ€”was invited to speak on my campus, not about radical politics or the 60s/70s but his field, education. Threats and protests from right wing students got him disinvited. So it isn't just the Charlie Kirks of this world who get shut down by protest.

In particular, keep posting and repeating what Chris Murphy pointed out--that Pam Bondi offered to withdraw ICE *if Minnesota handed over its voter rolls.* Keep saying it until it is specifically denounced on cable news and the floors of Congress.

A photo of the man murdered by ICE today, just before the shooting. He’s standing and holding a phone in his right hand and holding his empty left hand to the sky and looking behind him at a woman running away while an ICE agent closes in on him from the front. On the ground behind the man is a woman that the victim will soon try to help, leading several ICE agents to attack him and pin him to the ground, before shooting him several times.

We’re supposed to believe this is a domestic terrorist attacking ICE with a gun

We used to have a multi-party system. The Democrats were really five parties and the Republicans three. Now the Democrats are down to two and Republicans just one. That's a large part of our problem.

We form coalitions before our elections (or we used to); parliamentary systems do it after.

I am watching what is happening in Minneapolis on Ali Velshi and one of the ICE officers (off camera) literally says, β€œIt’s like Call of Duty. Pretty cool huh?” as they shoot whatever it is they are shooting. Agents walking around, guns unholstered for no reason. This is insanity
