Texas AG Paxton Declares Therapists Affirming Trans Youth To Be Illegal And Child Abuse The declaration echoes his 2022 efforts to target parents of trans youth with child abuse, and may force conversion therapy on trans youth in the state.

1. This morning, Texas AG Ken Paxton just released a chilling new declaration:

Mental health therapists, counselors, and psychologists must cease affirming trans youth - using their name and pronouns - or potentially face child abuse charges and loss of licensure.

Its a horrifying escalation.

yeah, why doesn't she show her face in public or talk about her positions or give us some sort of glimpse into her personal life??? WHAT IS SHE HIDING???

No movement on human rights complaints.

No promise to restore care.

Rarely have I been so disappointed.

language like this has been part of state legislation for awhile, but it hasn't yet generally taken root. as a mental health provider who has worked for years with trans youth, this is chilling. it's intimidation, pure and simple.

additionally, this opens the door for non-supportive parents to to file a flood of complaints to licensing boards. for mental health providers such complaints are an enormous burden to deal with and, depending on the composition of the board, can be a threat to our ability to practice at all.

oh, you can absolutely talk about trans people this way, and worse, it's utterly routine
