I gravitate towards cuff down with heel flap, for both knitting and wearing. But I do deviate on occasion! I prefer textured patterns with solids & tonals, but turn to vanilla or rib with louder or striped yarns. Have you tried a princess sole? It puts the smooth side toward the skin.

My motivation to teach myself to knit, was specifically to knit socks! And, 12 years later I've knit ~125 pairs. It's my jam.

I used 96 sts, and I think mine's about 10" wide. It's fingering weight yarn and does not feel too bulky at that width (heavier yarns would, for me).

Yes, I'd knit this on a plane. But you do use 2 balls of yarn simultaneously, so there's that. And if you use like to use stitch markers at the increase/decrease for chevrons, bring spares in case any go rogue. 😁

You use both ends for both socks. Knit xx rounds from one end, then knit xx rounds from the other end, switch again, etc. It is ridiculously satisfying to watch the stripes evolve. The orange/blue socks were done this way.😁

Dramatically up your stripe game by using yarns that have long color changes (zauberball, chroma, mille colori, kroy FX, etc)!

You can even use just one colorway and work the stripes using opposite ends of the same ball.

OMG I remember the christmas tree slices. And I think there were snowman slices too? My grandmother served it on christmas day and she always brought it out already sliced. Kid me would have been fascinated to see her do it, but alas..no.
