Back at my mom's for several weeks. The oxygen concentrator is humming and she is watching tv comfortably. Today's adventure was a trip to the DMV to renew her driver's license. She aced the vision test and now we can keep the car registered. Kinda scary you can arrive in a wheelchair and renew.

This is 65! I'm where I want to be. Friend, daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, lover. I may have bruises and holes in my heart but I choose the light. The light in my mother's eyes, and the sparkles of my grandgirlies mischievous eyes. My children's eyes. I choose the light.

So tomorrow I will be officially old. As in Medicare eligible old. Actually it started on August 1st. No more copays (I have secondary insurance through my union retirement plan- Go union) for the rest of the year. Which is great considering the wretched shape I'm in.

Arrived home from a two week stay with my mom. In which she was hospitalized for four nights for congestive heart failure, kidney failure and stomach pain. Second trip to ER and admission in three weeks. Time for palliative care. So hard to leave and so hard to stay. Wherever I am it feels wrong.

I wanted to scream into the abyss but apparently there is a line and I hate waiting.

Mom and I dispatched a mouse before breakfast. She calmly snatched it up with a bag, tied a knot in the top and I tossed it to the trash cans. We scrubbed our hands; she ate a breakfast of juice, coffee and French toast and fruit. I have been assured that this mouse was not a friend of Cinderella.
