A neat tool I just came across: Viabundus, a digital road map of northern Europe 1350-1650, that lets you calculate contemporary travel routes/times. In 1500, going Amiens → Köln by horse took almost 7 days and 13 toll payments.

The first assassination attempt was around 10.15 hrs in the morning. The second and successful assassination attempt was 45 minutes later, around 11 o'clock local time Thanks to the telegraph everybody at least in Europe knew it the same day.

Absolutely right! The EU member states have the formal voting power in those international organizations but it in practice it is a considerable EU influence.

'Win the negotiation' mode is a very traditional British thing!! The EU, and you know this, is about co-operation, mutual benefits but also (and always) about protecting and promoting the interests of EU member states and the EU as a whole.

It's more complicated. The EU is very active in international standardization bodies and has substantial norm-stetting power. Once the international standard is set, it helps the EU to improve the functioning of the EU single market. It becomes a EU regulation that influences the rest of the world.

Ungarische Standesamtsregister 1895–1980 des Komitats Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun online Das ungarische Staatsarchiv hat die Zweitschriften der Standesamtsregister des Komitats Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun zwischen April und Dezember 2024 neu digitalisiert und online gestellt. Zirka 3.200 Bände aus Orten rund um Budapest von _Abony_ bis _Zsámbék_ sind jetzt im Internet frei zugänglich. Etwa eine Million Bilder können durchsucht werden. Die ungarisch geführten Register enthalten in vielen Orten auch deutsche Namen. Leider gibt es keine Namensregister zur leichteren Suche in den Bänden. Zum Verstehen der ungarischsprachigen Webseiten ist der Google-Übersetzer oder jedes andere Übersetzungs-Tool hilfreich. _Webseite des Ungarischen Staatsarchivs (Hierarchie)_ #### Was ist digitalisiert, was ist online? Detaillierte Listen der erhaltenen Standesamtsbücher (mit Angabe der Änderungen der Standesamtsbezirke) sind hier zu finden: die Geburten, die Heiraten und die Sterbefälle. Die Sperrfristen für den Zugang sind 30 Jahre für Sterbefälle, 86 Jahre für Heiraten und 110 Jahre für Geburten. Oft sind mehrere Jahre in einem Band zusammengefasst. Dann bleibt dieser solange gesperrt, bis der letzte Jahrgang frei wird. Damit sind ca. 70 % der digitalisierten Urkunden frei zugänglich. Während bis 1906 zunächst für jede Urkunde eine Seite (für Heiraten sogar zwei) verwendet wurde, sind später die Daten in tabellarischer Form eingetragen worden und enthalten damit auch weniger Angaben. #### Was kommt als nächstes? Die Digitalisierung wird mit den Registern aus dem Komitat _Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén_ fortgesetzt. Dank einer Kooperation wird das Nationalarchiv in Kürze digitalisierte Komitatserien hochladen, die zuvor von _FamilySearch_ erstellt wurden. Auch die Volltextsuche ist in Planung, da die Archive an der automatischen Indizierung arbeiten. Damit beweist das Ungarische Staatsarchiv erneut seine Vorreiterrolle bei der Digitalisierung von genealogisch bedeutsamen Unterlagen. Im CompGen-Blog berichten wir regelmäßig darüber. What is your evidence based on that 'voters in the West' no longer seem to care about careful evidence-based economic policy-making?
Do you perhaps have a link to a study that proves this? Or other arguments? If not, an expert should refrain from making such claims!
