Federal Labor went to the last election with a promise to fix our broken nature laws. After years of delays, they have introduced new laws to Parliament. But they’re not good enough & will fail to protect nature.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧡

As WAHOO gets closer to Gaza, some 420 nautical miles, around the drive from Sydney to Brisbane, and enter the 'critical zone' - the area where the Israeli Occupation Forces usually violently intercept humanitarian flotillas, I have emailed the Department Of Foreign Affairs seven times to ask them for help, but with no response. My family and friends have called them and they were told 'she should consult the Smart Traveller website. We are peaceful ordinary citizens doing what our government should be doing - delivering baby food and medicine to the remaining Palestinians left alive who have been intentionally starved and slaughtered by genocidal Zionists. In international waters. We deserve protection.
The IOF has already bombed us twice on this mission destroying boats and they are now threatening an escalation in their attacks, a boat prison and lengthy prison terms. And I am told to look up the Smart Traveller website.

From holes in the earth to powerhouses: The solar potential of abandoned pit mines is huge. Turning abandoned open-pit mines into solar farms could resolve growing land-use tensions and unlock vast, underused infrastructure for renewable energy deployment.

Why not put solar farms in places already disturbed that aren’t being used otherwiseβ€”especially defunct open-pit mines w/ their roads & grid connections? New global study finds 61.8K mines that together cover 47.9K km2, enough for 4,764 TWh/yr of solar.

More than any other sitting politician, on defence matters I trust this former lieutenant colonel, Andrew Wilkie, who resigned his post over the lies being told to justify the Iraq invasion.
Leave the nuclear warships to the Americans. Australia's small, fast fleet is best for Australia.

Here’s Kooyong Liberal candidate Amelia Hamer telling you she’s a 'renter'.

But Amelia isn’t being completely honest.

In fact, she's being outright deceptive, and the millennial renters in particular who Amelia has tried to deceive will feel angry.

Let me lay it out.

An imitation collector card, with the brand "Australian Liberal Party Lies". This is #6. The tagline is "Collect them all ... so you don't elect them all!"

The Lie section says: β€œRenewables are driving up power bills”.

The Facts section says:
β€œCoal and gas prices have DOUBLED, which pushed up wholesale and then retail electricity prices”.

A series of small bar charts illustrate changes in relevant data between 2020/21 and 2022/23/24, showing coal prices increasing 135%, gas prices 112%, wholesale electricity prices 104%, and the percentage of renewables having increased 30%. Retail prices are shown in a larger chart to have increased 24% from 2020/21/22 to 2023/24. An arrow links wholesale prices to retail prices with the label β€œLag”.

Footnotes refer to the sources of the data as AER, ABS, Open Electricity, YCharts and OFX.
