I once wrote about a similar issue - supposedly, making bankers think about their work makes them more dishonest, but in reality, it could very well be that thinking about their free time activities makes them more honest (doi.org/10.3389/fpsy...)

so they just used a significant effect in the opposite direction as evidence for their effect and assumed that nobody would ever check 🤯

funny - just today in my IntroToPsy class at @iksz.fsv.cuni.cz, I was talking about degenerative research lines & outcome switching to self-reports in power-posing studies and as I was demonstrating both poses, it occurred to me that the effect was only relative to doing the contractive pose...

Never, ever, write chapters in edited volumes. No one can read them, they are trees that fall in a forest when there is no one around to see it. Do yourself a favor, and post a preprint, or start a blog. It will likely have 1000 time more impact.

I always hated doi links in references; a pain to find them.

But NOW it is a great way to check for LLM-hallucinated references.

I clearly remembrer how AI killer robots felt pretty sci-fi when we conducted our first studies on the topic just couple of years back 10.1037/pac0000601 😅

There seem to be a whole (older) cohort of eminent social psychologists who essentially do not understand the concept of sampling error, and I wonder to what extent that lack of understanding was an adaptive trait for a career.

Perfect moment to get back to lab data collection! Just today we kicked off a lab building course build on "lab citizenship" principles, where students design and stress test procedures for running studies in a brand new SocSci ExpLab at @fsv.charlesuni.cuni.cz 😎

if they can fake keypresses and reading speed, I do not see feeding a video of finger covering webcam as too hard to overcome... but it could certainly help at least for a while

The stages of online samples in my research career:
1. too difficult/expensive/unrepresentative
2. too expensive but representative
3. pretty affordable but less representative
4. cheap and full of bots with garbage responses
5. wide price range and maybe full of non-people pretending to be people

An interesting Metascientific question is how we deal with deviations from preregistrations. Can we evaluate their impact on the severity of tests? If not, should studies with substantial deviations be reported as non-preregistered?

despite my high expectations, #PSE8 was even better than I had imagined! I’m truly grateful to all the organizers and attendees for such a great experience, the much needed inspiration and chance to get feedback on my little #scicom research idea ⬇️
