wtf? "While the instructions for authors for Paediatrics & Child Health has at times indicated the case reports are fictional, that disclosure has never appeared on the journal articles themselves." who needs fraud when there are medical journals where you can publish *fictional* case reports?

you mean haven't remade it again? (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%...) yeah, I was hoping for something like let's go pikachu, but based on crystal instead of red/blue...

mein Deutsch ist gut nur fΓΌr "die welt ist schlecht", but I guess it captures the overall tone πŸ˜… but that is about pokemon go, not gen I & II on game boy color, which is of course the peak pokemon experience 🫣

still, authors recommend full labeling: "We recommend 5- to 7-point fully labeled scales for most contexts, balancing quality, usability, and modeling ease."

"Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects." - avoid algorithmic content on every platform, on twitter, it is actually quite easy

maybe they believe meta-analyses are commonly known to be so often deeply flawed that pointing it out for this particular one does not clear the bar for publication in their esteemed journal Β―\_(ツ)_/Β― ... but srsly, that's infuriating ,|

just a week ago I dug up this exact same thing probably from #SPSP2016 or something! but I'm not 100% sure what it is supposed to be, is it a whistle? πŸ˜…

I always hated doi links in references; a pain to find them.

But NOW it is a great way to check for LLM-hallucinated references.

And this, in evolutionary biology, is called a spandrel.
Something that evolved for one purpose but now serves a different purpose (or none at all).

I clearly remembrer how AI killer robots felt pretty sci-fi when we conducted our first studies on the topic just couple of years back 10.1037/pac0000601 πŸ˜…

There seem to be a whole (older) cohort of eminent social psychologists who essentially do not understand the concept of sampling error, and I wonder to what extent that lack of understanding was an adaptive trait for a career.

tried surveymonkey, they have no usable randomization for experiments - only very simple a/b testing and presenting elements in a random order

A great new preprint on the importance of pilot studies for the validity of studies that are performed. Such an important tooic, that is discussed too little. I especially liked the section on the need for transparent reporting. osf.io/t968e_v1 By @yashvin.bsky.social and collaborators.

Perfect moment to get back to lab data collection! Just today we kicked off a lab building course build on "lab citizenship" principles, where students design and stress test procedures for running studies in a brand new SocSci ExpLab at @fsv.charlesuni.cuni.cz 😎

if they can fake keypresses and reading speed, I do not see feeding a video of finger covering webcam as too hard to overcome... but it could certainly help at least for a while

The stages of online samples in my research career:
1. too difficult/expensive/unrepresentative
2. too expensive but representative
3. pretty affordable but less representative
4. cheap and full of bots with garbage responses
5. wide price range and maybe full of non-people pretending to be people

An interesting Metascientific question is how we deal with deviations from preregistrations. Can we evaluate their impact on the severity of tests? If not, should studies with substantial deviations be reported as non-preregistered?

despite my high expectations, #PSE8 was even better than I had imagined! I’m truly grateful to all the organizers and attendees for such a great experience, the much needed inspiration and chance to get feedback on my little #scicom research idea ⬇️

Once you start thinking about implausibly large effect sizes, you can't stop spotting them around you or wondering how others aren't doing so.

Harkin et al.'s (2016) meta analysis has 740+ citations, but it reports Cohen d values as large as 14. 17 cases of d>4.

Our lab has the capacity to test ~500 uni students each semester
If you’re a researcher in cognitive psychology or metascience and need data collection support, we’d love to collaborate. We can help collect high-quality data from a large student sample.

Leif’s #PSE8 keynote was ridiculously good, basically a live episode of @datacolada.bsky.social ... if anyone deserves a detective/sitcom series based in their work, it’s Leif, not Ariely – take note @netflix.com
