There was so much trust that our leaders would be decent people, that they would revere their positions and our traditions and serve all of the people. So the guardrails - like BUILDING PERMITS AT THE WHITE HOUSE - are not in place. We need to be looking at laws from the top to the bottom.

Good thing the press corps has decided to suffer all the indignities and outrages so they can keep their important physical access, that unique inside ability to report on what's really going on in the White House, like if they're planning to imminently tear down a large chunk of it.

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?

if we are going to have a supreme court that is as powerful as it is, i basically think justices should be forbidden from public comment on their work as well as any supplemental source of income while they are on the bench. (they should also ride circuit again but that's a bit separate.)
