Autumn joys. The simultaneous fruiting (from the 2024 flowers) and flowering (for the 2026 fruits) seasons of strawberry trees (Arbutus unedo) already began around here.

A large accumulation of amphorae scattered across the sandy ocean floor. The amphorae are densely clustered, with many partially buried in the seabed, forming the distinct shape of a ship. The scene is illuminated by dim, bluish underwater light.
An absolutely stunning photo! The 35m-long #Roman shipwreck, along with its cargo of 6,000 (!) amphorae was discovered in 2019 off the coast of the Greek Island of Kefalonia.
It’s one of the largest Roman shipwrecks found in the Mediterranean.

Rachel Carson
For Women's History Month, may we all remember and summon the courage of Rachel Carson, who wrote Silent Spring to inform the world what DDT was doing to the songbirds, raptors, and by extension, us. While battling cancer, she stood her ground against savage attacks by the chemical industry...

With just 5 years to go, the world is failing on a vital deal to halt biodiversity loss
All countries must accelerate efforts to avert the biodiversity crisis, and preserve Earth’s precious natural places for future generations.
With just 5 years to go, the world is failing on the Global Biodiversity Framework to conserve and restore biodiversity.
"In fact, we're actively destroying biodiversity faster than ever in human history."

Funny how he isn’t wearing a suit either. Almost like he was a wartime leader defending his country from being slaughtered and wiped out by an authoritarian aggressor.

We're probably going to see more of these sudden removals caused by panic-induced changes of policy further upstream. If you're using an online resource that's really important to your research, this is the moment to get your plan B in place. Eg: is there a data download, or an alternative source?
