Went to a retro arcade and wound up neglecting the vintage arcade machines to instead spend most of my visit parked in front of a CRT, playing Panzer Dragoon. That game kicks ass, even if I'm quite terrible at it.

What made Max switch from barely-conscious wreck to standing toe-to-toe with Batman was Bruce questioning his intentions with J'onn. Max may hate himself, but if there's one thing he won't accept, it's the insinuation that he doesn't care about J'onn.

I was watching The Lost Boys, like I do every Halloween, and something occurred to me... the head vampire is a middle-aged businessman named Max who uses amiable charm to hide his sinister intentions...

There's a hell of a JLI-themed Elseworlds pitch to be had there.

Max may be a barely functioning mess, but he's still the man who talked his way into the Justice League deep down.

"What the hell do you want, *Bruce*?"

The look on Bruce's face when he's reminded that Max knows everything is the most satisfaction Max has felt in months.

The main reason he wears the housecoat and loungewear combo is simply that he isn't looking after himself, but he likes that it makes him feel smaller.

Bruce inevitably confronts Max out of paranoia that he's faking it, and that's when Max realises that he can now look him straight in the eye.

Once Kilg%re is gone, it's like a spell is lifted. Everyone wonders how they didn't question how obviously *different* Max looked. Now, whenever they look at him, it's all they can see.

I like how much of a hulking beast Checkmate Max is when compared to JLI Max. It really drives home the Wrongness of the whole thing.

Unfortunately for Bruce, J'onn couldn't care less about money, but he does, for reasons beyond the realm of human understanding, care about Max.

Obsessed with the idea that Bruce is wasting millions of Wayne Enterprises's dollars in repeated fruitless attempts to convince J'onn to stop sleeping with Max.

Since DC have steadfastly refused to give us any Max and J'onn interactions for the past 20 years, we have no proof that J'onn *doesn't* ill-advisedly call up his horrible ex when he's feeling lonely and horny.

I was bitching about villain Max with a mutual over on tumblr, and it really is fucking nuts that you're more likely to see a nuanced, sympathetic portrayal of Lex Luthor in a modern comic than you are a portrayal of Max that paints him as anything other than irredeemably evil.

True Sixieheads love him because he is both a sweetheart and also a massive bitch.

People who only like the Sixth Doctor in his more cuddly Big Finish incarnation are weak, and simply can't handle a bipolar princess 😤

Finally freed from Kilg%re's 'reprogramming', Max is a shell of his former self. Broken down both physically and mentally, J'onn's steady presence offers a rare mercy he feels wholly undeserving of.

Finally catching up on the new Futurama season, and I can't believe they casually revealed that Leela's bisexual by way of a background gag.

Also, for a bit of angst (because I literally cannot help myself), imagine Max venting to Sue about not knowing where the hell things stand between he and J'onn anymore.

It's nice to have someone in his life who just treats him as a *friend*, rather than a walking cautionary tale.

it helps that she missed his whole Villain Era due to... very unfortunate circumstances. she's heard about it second hand, but she just genuinely can't imagine him like that, it seems absurd. and they ABSOLUTELY watch the real housewives together. max is such a bitch about it.
