So is this knee jerk reaction by people and the media the news story with typical of every tax assessment? Maybe I'm just paying attention more. After moving here from Toronto, taxes felt so low in Winnipeg that assessments were never really on my radar.

But no more games. Just actually raise taxes to provide needed services. No more taking water and waste funds to prop up under funded departments.

We need more funds. Especially if we want to throw money at billion dollar roadway expansion projects and useless police helicopters.

I have no problem with people how own large to McMasion style homes on large lots in sprawling suburbs paying far more honestly.

Interesting, I myself was surprised that given the outcry of increased assessments, finding that mine was only slightly changed. Some folks say they had $100,000 of increases. It seems like the pattern is that the largest homes are getting the biggest increases, which to me seems reasonable.

The Gillingham should be more transparent about the need to raise revenue/taxes. This city-wide jump in assesments is clearly motivated by the need for more tax revenue and not a sudden change in Winnipeg housing prices. This is election year behaviour.

It should be noted that the city has not released the independent reports they paid Deloitte to create on the cost and benefits of this project. I've submitted a FIPPA to access these reports.

If these Alberta separatists include politicians, they should immediately be removed from their posts and by-elections should be held as soon as possible. Alberta isn't theirs to give away. All of Canada is shared by all Canadians regardless of what province they call home.
