When even the people building the AI are saying regulations and controls are needed, people should probably listen. The problem is that the American government is a bit broken at the moment.

I'm not pro or anti AI. But I am for being completely intentional about AI. AI could result in a utopia for humans or a complete apocalypse, depending how we manage it and adapt to it over the next few years and decades. If we aren't intentional it will certainly lead to an apocalypse for humans.

It is similar to people discussing rearranging furniture on a ship that is headed full steam ahead at an iceberg. The discussion is moot if we don't slow the ship down first.

It is clear that people truly don't understand the scale of disruption AI and eventually super artificial intelligence will bring to the world. It is a complete existential shift to all human reality. The genie can't be put back in the bottle and we have already pulled out the cork.

I agree. I'm sure there will be some hiccups as the system is adjusted. I think that ultimately they will need more buses to increase frequency. I fully support the idea. I believe cities can't become great with status quo thinking at city hall.

Some have said too polite. But I don't want to give them any reason to dismiss my points.

By preventing participation, the councillors breached their duty of honesty and integrity and engaged in conduct that discredits the City by making the public consultation process appear to be a sham.

The stated purpose for the suspension of rules—that delegates could speak at the next meeting—was knowingly misleading. The delegations in opposition were present to speak specifically against the motion to extend the deadline....

Section 20 - Discreditable Conduct: "Members must not engage in conduct that would discredit the City." A strong argument can be made that voting to blacket silence registered delegates in opposition brings the entire institution of City Council into disrepute.

Part 4 - Rules of Conduct:
Section 16 - Improper Use of Influence: a member must not use their office "to improperly influence the decisions of others." One could argue that using procedural tools to pre-emptively silence dissent is an improper use of a councillor's influence and authority.

A deliberate vote to suspend the rules to block public participation could a violation of several core principles in the Code of Conduct.

Integrity: "Members share a duty to act honestly and with integrity."
Accountability: "Members are accountable to the public..."

The claim could be made that the decision to suspend the rules was an "abuse of procedure".

Janice Lukes said on UpTo Speed yesterday that people would be heard with respect to the Wellington Cres delays. Instead the committee moved to suspend the rules and block all these individuals from speaking today. This is against city bylaws. @faithfundal.bsky.social

It is totally against city bylaws to do what they just did to those deligates. They definitely can't blanket block them because they are there to speak to a specific issue or because there are many of them.
