胡锦涛提出“和谐社会”的口号，也说明了这个社会是相当的不和谐。中共提出“稳定压倒一切”，首先是政权的稳定，它把政权稳定当做最大的目标。所以就看到，严密审查言论，限制民众聚集，网格化管理、高科技监控、暴力维稳。但是暴力之下的和谐，不是真正的和谐；专制之下的稳定，也不是真正的稳定。

Every time I met him, I was inspired by his kindness and passion.

Very saddened and shocked to hear of the passing of Jerry Cohen. He is the champion of promoting rule of law and human rights in China and other East Asian countries. His support is priceless for my career and my life.
Political violence becomes far more likely under 4 conditions: when democracy is declining rapidly, when societies are divided by race, religion or ethnicity, when political leaders tolerate or encourage violence, and when citizens have easy access to guns. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

Yesterday I gave a talk on China's Transnational Repression and high-tech surveillance.
在出版这本书的时候，我和孔杰荣教授合写了一篇文章《许志永VS习近平》作为序言。他们两个人代表了中国两种政治前景、法制前景。一个是许志永所呼吁、所践行的法治、民主的中国，用许志永和公民运动的话，叫 “自由、公义和爱的美好中国”。习近平所代表的是一个极权专制的、党控制一切的中国。

行动者的思考和思想者的行动，都一样珍贵。在许志永看来，通过公民联合、公民行动的方式，恐怕是最理想的转型模式。它是一种不流血的和平革命。通过公民社会的成长，迫使当局接受谈判，让出一部分权力，实现民主化。
不过在我看来，中国很可能已经丧失了和平转型的机会。
