it's a little misleading bc it went for the cash grabby title, but this book was a pretty decent pop history of posadism and has a couple of chapters on their concept of UFOs and Marxism (saucernauts must be socialists bc that's the only way a civ would last long enough to develop space travel)

i'm biased, of course, but i *still* think there's a lot of value in pushing people to read older stuff, since there's an awful lot of historical illiteracy in genre! the trick, i think, is to put them together with some real thought and editorial vision, rather than just a quick cash grab anthology

there's some good work been done, but it's still often so very internalist, at least in my opinion - written for historians of science and math. be nice to see someone take all that good work and stretch it into social history, labor history, etc, where the new stats were equally important!

and, i mean, its where Capital came from too, of course - Engels' CONDITIONS OF THE WORKING POOR IN ENGLAND, which was the foundation of Marx's work, was explicitly a result of the statistical revolution of the early 1800s

it would be fun to read a history of socialism centered around the rise of modern statistics in the late 18th through the 19th century. huge part of the pre-Capital rise of socialist advocacy comes out of new ways to handle (and present) large numbers and ideas of rigorous correlation, etc
