Yeah. My only experience of 3/s.5 adjacent was Pathfinder...which I didn't mind but preferred 5e. Dndbeyond makes combat so much quicker thankfully.

Heh we all have our own journeys. I played solidly from 1978 to 1996 (basic --> AD&D -->2e...pretty seamlessly). Missed 3e entirely. Returned in 2008 to 4e. Hated it as overhomogenised and its loooooong combats (it would have been so much better with a digital platform tho). Flipped to PF then 5e

Tap water is nice in Sydney - our water is soft as Sydney is on acidic sandstone. Incidentally we call this a bubbler in Sydney..but no other states in Oz use the term.

Also, regarding alignment - before the FF came out, they were not big on NE, NG, CN and LN as monster alignments. My impression of alot of monsters before this was that chaotic evil was like evil by default (i.e. unles a critter was specifically Lawful Evil it was chaotic evil). I don't base /2

Okay so regarding beholders and alienness - 1e and 2e did not have monster classifications like "outsider" and "aberration" so I think the alienness was developed more after these categories came about and the writers starting thinking about what this meant. Tho obvs spelljammer I think initiated it
