31.07.2025 03:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Key statistics Australian women hold 40% less net wealth than men on average 35% of women aged 65+ have less than $1,000 in savings, compared to 22% of men The gender pay gap begins in childhood, girls are paid pocket money of $7.50 per week on average, compared to $10.30 for boys. Men are more likely to ask for a pay rise (24% of men asked, compared to only 14% of women). When they do get a pay rise, women receive less: on average $2,424, compared to $4,000 for men.
Sobering stuff from the Women's Wealth Report. The #GenderPayGap starts in childhood, which is clearly not 'merit'. Ditto the lower rate of women asking for pay rises; stop asking women to ask for more, and fix the #GenderBias that punishes them for doing so.
