“Oh, that I have no problem with.”

The Toymaker waved his hands over the corpses like a magician, disappearing them to the backrooms of his shop in no time at all. He approached the elder entity, still trying to survey them.

“Are you from my realm?”

He snapped his fingers and the gun transformed into a flower. The Toymaker smiled indulgently.

“What is it that you require?”

+ He disappears through the curtains to the back halls with a flourish, already thinking of the perfect costume for today. And the perfect, ten-thousand page manual for “new employees”.

“Clear instructions, improvement, of course, of course!”

The Toymaker smiles wickedly, letting go of Charlie’s hand.

“You’ll have them all and more. Now come, come! Let us find you a uniform. This way, this way!” +

The Toymaker strikes a teacup with a small spoon. He’s dressed as the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, something he regards as a fitting outfit for the occasion.

“May I join you?”

+ Ever thought of opening up a shop for playthings? You have the talent for it.”

His accent comes and goes, just another game of his for sizing up this prey — or predator. Is this being as old as him, perhaps? He produces an uncanny pocketwatch, deftly checking the time.

“I have to stock up my shop,” the Toymaker replies easily, somehow unperturbed by this presence as opposed to all others.

He pockets the knife and turns gracefully, following the puppet movements as they come to “life”.

“Where dost thou reside, monsieur? +

gruesomely at his feet, turned into a macabre puppet. But the Toymaker tires of these wayward toys; he’s looking for excitement. More excitement than the seven graves he’s surrounded by. )

The Toymaker’s eyes almost twinkle with delight. Surely the stars there are artificial, or a trick of the light. But his glee can’t be contained or hidden.

The Toymaker paused. Genuinely, he felt a tad impressed. That this person would be so willing to work for him — and with his performances, he did need someone to keep the shop running while he… had fun with other customers.

“What was your favorite toy as a child?”

The Toymaker smiled easily. Of course, his true goal wasn’t to hire anyone for any role, for help or otherwise.

No, it was to ensnare and entrap unsuspecting humans like the person in front of him in his great maze, or maybe as a puppet! Or a doll! So many possibilities. Each one was exciting! +

It was like they’d been there the whole time!

But at the girl’s question about his accent, he grows even more excited - and appraising.

“Not around these parts, hm? Well, I did just open up shop. You may call me the Toymaker.”

The Toymaker beckons her on past the stage, warping reality back into his shop where he quickly produces a pen and paper, along with two chairs and a desk. +
