24.11.2024 18:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This portion of my Chaos and Calm quilt had me scratching my head for a bit, but I think it came together nicely. The blocks were made by some Quilts Unscripted beemates (Sarah Goer, Sarah Ruiz, Charles Cameron, Emily Lang, and Ellyn Zinsmeister). I am making a modern "potholder quilt".
24.11.2024 14:32 β π 33 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Same! Bring on the weird / different / unique / amazing!
24.11.2024 14:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I always machine stitch 1/8" from edge before I start to prevent fraying & popped seams. I exclusively spray baste because I hate pinning. Sarah Fielke is a great person to follow to get started, but you have to practice a lot and do what works best for you. I do it "wrong" π€£ but it works for me.
24.11.2024 14:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks! It is one of my go-to techniques. I love the contrast, too!
23.11.2024 02:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It is made by The Thimble Lady from Australia. It is a sit-upon hoop that has a little part that goes between your legs as you stitch. I love, love, love it! I love it so much that I bought a backup one in case I ever manage to lose or break it. Pricey, but worth it! www.etsy.com/listing/1412...

22.11.2024 16:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Beautiful!
22.11.2024 16:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Me, too! I also read a lot of audiobooks since I picked up this hand quilting habit as well :)
22.11.2024 16:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't tend to wash show quilts, so I like to use methods that don't require water to remove. My other favorite method is Hancy Ultimate Pounce powder with their Full Line Stencils. It comes off just by ironing it. Really cool product.
22.11.2024 16:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There is a learning curve, but I find it totally relaxing.
22.11.2024 16:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks!
22.11.2024 16:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Various ways depending on the quilt. For this one I used Frixion heat disappearing pens, which I know are controversial but I've personally never had an issue with them and I like their versatility.
21.11.2024 21:49 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I love big stitch hand quilting, how about you? #quiltsky
21.11.2024 20:16 β π 92 π 1 π¬ 11 π 1I hear you. It isn't for everyone. I had the same hesitations, but it turned out that I loved hand quilting. Now the creation of the top and the quilting are two distinctly different things to me. The tops usually "marinate" for a long time before they make it to the top of the "to be quilted" pile.
21.11.2024 17:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is exactly why I started hand quilting. I didn't want to pay to send them out, but machine quilting on anything other than a completely utilitarian quilt stressed me out. Hand quilting takes forever but I genuinely love doing it, so that is what I do now.

19.11.2024 19:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, it is! I'm in the process of actually writing it as a commercial pattern now. It is slow going because I have had so many other things going on, but hoping to have it ready for release by the spring. Thanks for freaking loving it π

19.11.2024 18:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I just learned about Bluesky while I was at the Sew Brimfield retreat this weekend. A bunch of quilty folks are joining here and using the #quiltsky tag to find each other. FOMO won.
Here's my quilt, Unplugged, that I submitted for consideration to hang in the fabric challenge category at QuiltCon.
