This Art work stages a confrontation between the mythological figure of David, a stand in for the heroic subjectivity and the impersonal weapon system that is colloquially known as β€œDavid’s Sling”.

The aluminium was also polished to press down its grain and remove the plate tone around β€˜the work of art’.
Thematically the work celebrates the impotence of this work of art in the face of the world.

As part of my artistic experimentation I tried to create β€œchromatic grey” so that the black had a varied tone, in this print I created a very dark purple which creates subtle difference in plate tone.

This work deals with the way the idea of freedom spread from a rupture in the symbolic order to something perverted, repressed and constrained by capital.

A large, intricate monochrome blue drawing combining figurative and architectural forms. Dense, layered mark-making builds a palimpsest of fragmented bodies, ruins, grids and symbolic structures. A towering central figure stands among collapsing forms, while a dark, vaulted space on the right rises over a mound of debris. The left side is filled with overlapping anatomical, mechanical and narrative elements. The image evokes geological time, myth, and contemporary anxieties through meticulous, labour-intensive drawing. Contemporary art, experimental drawing, printmaking and iconographic complexity.

A close-up detail from a monochrome blue drawing showing fine, layered mark-making. Delicate etched lines form grasses, roots and fragmented limbs, with subtle cross-hatching and eroded textures suggesting geological sediment and bodily traces. The image highlights the labour-intensive, palimpsest-like surface of a contemporary drawing or print, emphasising material process, erosion, and accumulated time.

A close-up section of a dense monochrome blue drawing showing layered, overlapping figures rendered through fine etched lines. Fragmented bodies bend, collapse and merge with gestural marks, while a diagonal beam or fallen structure cuts through the composition. The surface is palimpsestic, with erased forms, ghostly outlines and accumulated mark-making revealing a labour-intensive contemporary drawing practice. The detail highlights themes of rupture, strain and mythic or historical collapse.

The Machine

There is a lot happening in Newcastle I would recommend visiting some studios up there (Middlesbrough too). Newbridge and Albion Road studios are good places to start!
