Look πŸ‘€ the receipts are in.

Stand’s forest team uncovered what UK energy giant Drax hoped no one would ever see – healthy, irreplaceable old growth forests being targeted and burned in the name of β€œclean” energy.

This isn’t climate action, it’s corporate greenwashing at its worst.

Mapped: The Four Major Types of Forests Around the World Explore the four major types of forests around the worldβ€”tropical, boreal, temperate, and subtropicalβ€”and how they are managed today.

The faster you warm the climate the more will burn at the same time resulting in a non-linear feedback reaction if warming rate thresholds are breached...

This story explains one of the primary reasons why most western public lands are in poor ecological condition -- chronic livestock grazing is allowed to continue irrespective of the damage being done and without any review. Private interests destroying public resources. 🌎

The wealthy profit from public lands, and taxpayers pick up the tab - High Country News Roughly two-thirds of grazing on Bureau of Land Management land is controlled by just 10% of permit holders.

Damn good journalism.

Welfare ranching is the Walmart of public lands. Wealthy ranch owners graze our public lands for pennies at the taxpayer’s dime while destroying wildlife & wild places. They’re trying to take even more & hope we won’t notice.

Africa’s forests transformed from carbon sink to carbon source, study finds Alarming shift since 2010 means planet’s three main rainforest regions now contribute to climate breakdown

Tropical forests should be one of our greatest allies in the struggle against climate breakdown

In our new peer-reviewed paper, we estimate that aboveground forest carbon storage is projected to decrease by 18% (796 Tg C) under +2Β°C climate warming in the western US. πŸ§ͺ🌍

This has big implications for carbon offset programs!

In burned forests, the West’s snowpack is melting earlier As blazes expand to higher elevations, the impacts cascade downstream.

"A new study has found that in the immediate aftermath of fires across the West, the snowpack disappears earlier in burned areas. And fire is burning higher and higher in elevation, which increases overlap between where burned forests are and where it snows.” 🌎 www.kunc.org/news/2025-11...

Studies: Extreme Weather Fueled by Climate Change Is Adding to Bird Declines β€’ The Revelator Scientists have typically pointed to habitat loss as the key factor behind the worldwide drop in bird populations worldwide, but climate change poses a second, closely linked threat.

"Two studies published this year suggest that climate change ... is not just a looming threat to birds in the future but has already played a large role in bird declines in some areas of the world." Read more: https://therevelator.org/climate-change-bird-declines/

The Western dams have economic and recreational benefits, but losing the natural spring floods is destroying the riparian ecosystem where native cottonwood is the keystone species.

Areas dominated by humans are home to fewer species, with similar ecosystem function and proximity in the evolutionary family tree, a recent study in Nepal’s southern plains suggests.

Human activities act like a filter, letting only certain birds survive.

True in much of the Neotropics, but def not the case in many other contexts and geographies. A lot of lands are losing considerable c storage thru chronic forest degradation alone.

It is a major contributing factor, depending on region and landscapes in question. Look at Canada for example, a huge piece of the equation.

From what I've seen, it's a mixed bag. Many forest types are being increasingly stressed by higher CO2 and experiencing higher tree mortality/ slower growth than under lower CO2, so the effect is very context dependent.

And we should be putting specific focus on safeguarding primary forests to max extent possible, bc they are the largest and often most vulnerable terrestrial c stores (and still being lost at very high rates almost everywhere.)
