The SBTi provides guidance to aid companies in target updating and transparency - Science Based Targets Initiative The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has published two key documents to support companies in meeting a critical milestone.

Regular reviews are essential for keeping targets robust, science-aligned and credible.

These resources help companies maintain ambition—and build trust through improved visibility.

These resources respond to stakeholder feedback and are designed to:
- Clarify expectations
- Streamline implementation
- Strengthen transparency

The SBTi Commitment and Target Statuses introduces an expanded set of commitment and target statuses, with clear definitions and explanation of how each status is classified.

The Mandatory Five-Year Review Guidance outlines the steps companies need to follow to review and, if needed, update their validated targets—helping them stay aligned with the latest SBTi Criteria.

To support this process, we’re launching two new resources:

1) Mandatory Five-Year Review Guidance
2) SBTi Commitment and Target Statuses

Both will take effect on December 18, 2025.
