From a public health perspective, 🇨🇦 ‘s system is superior to the 🇺🇸 because in 🇨🇦 nobody is uninsured. However, inequities exist in 🇨🇦 due in large part to the two tiered system. 🇨🇦 does not have enough hospitals and healthcare providers to meet the demand and it will get much worse as babyboomers age.

However, 🇨🇦 has a two-tiered healthcare system operating within its universal plan. Roughly more than half of Canadians have some sort of private insurance plan (typically) through their employer. This is a key factor for the disparity in mental healthcare in 🇨🇦.

🇨🇦 has a universal healthcare system = everyone is insured regardless of age, (pre)existing conditions or employment status. 🇺🇸 has a predominantly private healthcare system = not everyone is insured & those with comprehensive private plans receive care better care than patients with gov funded care.

In 🇨🇦, we don’t invest enough resources into the type of universal mental healthcare necessary to address the existing mental health crisis. Accessible, culturally competent, high-quality, and timely mental healthcare is not an option for most. Privatizing mental healthcare was a mistake from day 1.

Public consultation to determine the fate of Alberta supervised consumption sites | Globalnews.ca Premier Danielle Smith intends to host town halls in order to decide how to best move forward on supervised consumption sites in Alberta.

The province is obligated to provided healthcare to all citizens, even those living with addiction. Taking away supervised consumption services is like taking away the emergency department for this population. So much for a 'recovery-oriented system of care.' #ableg
