As expected Max Scherzer (right thumb) has rejoined the team here in Houston and is out throwing. Scherzer received a second cortisone shot, this time in the knuckle area, hoping to help alleviate the discomfort in his thumb.

Scherzer is encouraged but, “I’m not out of the woods, yet.”

Max Scherzer received a cortisone shot in his right thumb. John Schneider said the hope is it’ll knock out the inflammation, and in turn help with the discomfort, “then we’ll go from there.”

Scherzer will travel with the team. As far as throwing, he’s day to day, although aiming for Fri in NY.

Easton Lucas will start Wednesday’s series finale vs Nationals.
