and it becomes less exclusive. Idk random rant but I think a lot about how people in this community (myself included) kind of put Japan on an unrealistic pedestal because of the content we consumed from certain influences. Itβs not easy to live/move there, or even get a visa without spending $$.

When you feel like youβre so much better than other people because you had the resources to move abroad, esp to somewhere like Japan, you inevitably end up leaving a trail of people you chewed up, spat out, and excluded. I feel like this community might get really messy as more ppl move to Japan

Tea is many influencers who live abroad in general arenβt doing nearly as well as they make themselves out to be. I also feel like when you create influencing spaces around certain countries or cultures, cultish & cliquey behavior tends to ensue.

They make living in Japan out to be this aesthetic, easy, βkawaiiβ lifestyle and itβs taken me a lot of time and intention to see life in Japan more objectively. Iβm glad that so many influencers (esp teachers in Japan) have been candid about their negative experiences living there.

A lot of influencers who live in Japan or visit regularly genuinely feel so superior to the rest of the community. I feel like we also need to have a conversation about how some J-Influencers are lowkey propaganda machines who make Japan out to be this perfect escape from Western issues.

Colorism and racism are still massive issues within Japanese fashion & anime spaces. I feel like a lot of people join these communities expecting to be higher up on the hierarchy because they fit Japanese and/or Western beauty ideals. Thereβs also a weird hierarchy regarding proximity to Japan.

No fr itβs actually so exhausting having to explain to people that you donβt always need top and bottom lashes with an exaggerated droop just to do gyaru makeup. Itβs not practical for everyday wear & even the gals most people praise were t OTT 24/7.

Another thing Iβm noticing is that the bows are getting bigger again, and the pinks are finally becoming pinker. Iβm so tired of the washed out millennial pink shades that have been trending for the past few years in Japan. Bring back color!!

These bags though are the opposite, theyβre definitely way more ryousangata than himekaji, but I still think they could work for both! Itβs kind of a win for both gals & jirai because we can both use these pieces! Though I wonder if that will eventually change

Like this piece to me reads more hime gyaru than ryousangata for sure, but it still could work for both depending on the makeup & styling. Thatβs what I mean when I talk about this βgrey areaβ phase weβre currently in.

So letβs talk a bit about some of the recent designs from Japanese fashion brands! I feel like weβre in a weird transitional phase right now between Jirai/Ryousangata and Hime/Himekaji. A lot of recent designs from brands like Ank Rouge fall in a weird grey area imo??
