“Dear editor,
I asked an algorithm designed to mimic patterns it had learned through the plagiarism of billionaires if it could spit out something that looked convincingly like the stories it had stolen, and it burned through an ocean to deliver whatever this is. Thank you for your consideration.”

Comic page with two panels, showing an antenna on top of a dome. The texts say: "I am a Shepherdess, and my herd is celestial and metallic. The satellites are up above me. Far, far away up in the atmosphere... And here I am, down below. In this island, in this building, in this dome. Far, far away from anything and anyone else."
Thus begins the story of the Shepherdess, one of the protagonists of my new comic, Ekphrasis.

Color illustration of a borzoi-like creature and a coffee table full of recording equipment standing on a garden. Trees can be seen in the background.

Detailed illustration from the story “Body Music.” On a cluttered table in a pale garden sits a large recording device with two tape spools and lots of little buttons. Partly in the illustration is a beast with furry white curls. Some trees in the distance and a sickly sun.
Introducing some FANTASTIC cover art for my story "Body Music," published 263 days ago in Andromeda Spaceways! Hats off to the inimitable @lurnoise.bsky.social for the illustration 👀

Color illustration, in greenish tones, of Rana temporaria tadpoles swimming on a puddle that has formed over a concrete floor. The shadow of some off-canvas dandelions can be seen too.
Color illustration, in greenish tones, of Rana temporaria tadpoles swimming underwater.
Color illustration of a puddle with some Rana Temporaria tadpoles on it. The viewpoint is situated quite low, so a concrete floor, a dandelion plant and puffy clouds and a blue sky can be seen behind the puddle.
Color illustration of some dandelions against a bright, blue and empty sky.
Rana temporaria: a poem.

Definitely my pleasure! I’m doing reviews at a rate of about one a year (and I call myself a reviewer 😅) but it’s always so great going deeper into something… glad it was Limelight this time 😁

Photo of my slightly worn copy of Lyndsey Croal’s book, Limelight and Other Stories.
My review of @lyndseycroal.bsky.social’s wonderful collection LIMELIGHT AND OTHER STORIES is up! Incredibly fun reading: motivated characters, great pace, plenty of doomsday tech and voyaging through space…

i know many authors are experiencing this but it is so unsettling to create something complex, personal, inextricably interwoven into your own truth, and then see the thing only you could have made being fed into the playdough spaghetti factory of gray meaningless slop

A postcard, front and back.
The front is one of the old-style drawn postcards that are based on real places/pictures. In this case, it is the Rock of Ages Granite Quarry in Barre, Vermont. The color postcard shows the quarry in the bottom half, a series of cuts into rock that look like the foundation of a ruined house. Piles of gravel are in the upper half, along with trees and hills in the far distance.
The back reads: Dear S, we've started excavating the city from the stone. Once the dirt had been cleared away, the tops of buildings appeared. We didn't realize how deep the city went until we chiseled free a man on the edge of a roof. Still desperate, he tried to jump anyway, but there was no place to jump to. We uncovered birds on our way down, until we reached street level and a bundle of cars around a broken woman crumpled on the ground, an accident waiting to happen. ~D
We didn't realize how deep the city went.
