Somehow came home with ten artichoke plants from the local nursery today--purple violets and the big green globes. Like everything, home grown is a whole different thing.

The capacity our society has for elevating this type of guy just stuns me (still). Like go have a beer with him if that's your thing, but be serious about his character and lack of qualifications. That people would choose this over the slightly less than perfect woman who's solid and served... oye.

Perfect garden work weather, 50degrees, sunshine and no bugs (yet). Trying to get ahead of weeds and new planting beds. Very much on the upswing of crazy garden time. Everything's growing or needs to be prepped for growing or needs to be stomped on early (blackberries and thistles). Good distraction

This is a remarkably weak statement, full of passive voice. This nation needs better leadership from Senate democrats. You do not have the spine for this moment.

Morning's poetry was from one of Colorado's Poet Laureates, Joseph Hutchison. In his poem The Gulf written in response to the Deepwater Horizon disaster in 2010, there is one line--

"We speak, said the poet, in the possible tense."

Had my little writer thrill tonight--previewed the final layout for work coming out soon and it's always such a thing seeing my words in print. It's so good.

An archivist I have a request in with in Massachusetts responded to my email with an "S. Edwards" signature block which was a little fold in the universe like we must all be related or something... Samuel not Shelby but I think I'll just count him as a distant cousin as he digs through records.

Youngest pup-muppet has tweaked her hind or her back, but whatever it is, is very not springy in her typical springer spaniel lab self way and has decided that this afternoon is for sleeping glued to my side. It is apparently a do research and read kind day.

Birds are busy setting up nests in the laurel hedges, looks like robins and finches. Not my favorite plant, but the big evergreen leaves and open internal structure provide a lot of protective cover.

How to stop a dictator I spent months studying how authoritarians like Trump lose. The answer is shockingly simple.

I have spent the past several months studying the cutting-edge research on modern democracies that have defeated authoritarian leaders.

I've learned that the conventional wisdom on the topic is wrong β€”Β in ways that have clear implications for the US going forward

I love that there are still archives, many, many archives, that do not exist in the digital space. That you, or someone, has to go to that location and do the work. No, it's not safe--we could lose those physical records, no it's not accessible. But I still love that there are pockets of unknown.

Have spent all day falling down research rabbit holes (so many archives out there in the world that need a visit) (and I really should have grown up to be an archivist I love it so much), and catching up with my Mom on family lore, another reminder to talk to our elders before they're gone.

All that. Just disruptive and dumb. And as a class, warrants are clanish and I dunno, none of the ones I worked with liked stupid. This game show of making them compete against each other? Yeah, no. It's insulting.

21.02.2026 15:48 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

This is absurd. Warrants are backbone, pilots, cyber, tech. Deeply expert, non-political. Some start-up wonder boy came up with this nonsense--it smacks of tech cutthroat bonus fights. Has absolutely no place in the United States military.

Ossoff: "There are some folks who are doomscrolling in the fetal position. Every day there is a new outrage. It's easy I know to fear that maybe we could lose our republic. I think what John Lewis would tell us is it's up to us. We have the power to right the ship. Nobody is gonna do it for us."

Cutting VA benefits, services, and privatizing the VA was all laid out in Project 2025 and there has been an erosion of services over the last year, but this is particularly dark. And for anyone thinking it's living high--100% gets you just over $4,000/mo. and trust when I say, it's earned.

..of symptoms of that underlying disability, they'll cut your overall disability rating resulting in a reduction in payment and potential loss of other benefits (like no cost prescriptions). It often takes years for vets to get disability, almost all of us wait and cope past well past when we should
