The Black Cat (1934) ⭐ 6.9 | Crime, Horror, Romance 1h 5m | Not Rated

"The murderer of ten thousand men returns to the place of his crime..."

Necrophiliac Satanist builds creepy house on site of the dynamite-laden fort he betrayed to the Russians in World War One - and its vengeful commander aims to skin him alive...

Superb.

Outstanding ensemble cast giving it their furious, foul-mouthed all in a film that is all about #TheLeads. Who's got 'em? Who wants 'em? Who'll steal 'em? Who stole 'em? #TheLeadsDrinkingGame would kill you.

The only Tarantino I'd not seen and it was as dull and disappointing as most of his ouevre. Started really well but descended into typical Tarantedium and violence. I suppose not liking the four male leads didn't help either.

"Where have you been all my life?"

I didn't grow up with The Muppets (although I was surrounded by a load at high school) and seeing this OK-not-great comedy didn't make me feel I'd missed out. Pretty funny in places, some good cameos and Miss Piggy violence.

There's so much to love about #TheOtherJimmyStewartChristmasFilm with its flawless cast, gags, dialogue and one-liners. Samson Raphaelson's structurally-perfect screenplay is a boon to all writers. Enjoy.

Cool! For the record, I will not be trying to roll out of my chair or - and I want to emphasize this - attempting to leap on the back of a horse with my hands bound behind my back.

A great compilation of stunts from a favorite film. Read about Howard Hall & bits about his prowess. Yarchive.net has mention of the film. An English archer asked Hall if he could help. Hall asked if the man could hit a pole ~75 yards away & he could. Hall shot an arrow that landed on the top. 1/2

Yes, I love that and I either referenced it in my talk or meant too. Supremely talented man (although I'm not a fan of his hunting exploits).

Hell's Angels (1930) ⭐ 7.3 | Drama, War 2h 7m | Passed

"Pretty boy, you please me very much..."

A very strange film for many reasons - the cuts from silent to re-shot sound footage, the dubbing, tinting, Technicolor and often stilted dialogue. But I really enjoyed it and found some parts absolutely brilliant.

As a kid, watching this on telly one sunny afternoon, I and my friend would rush out to the garden with sticks and strings, pretending to be Robin Hood loosing (I didn't know that was the terminology back then!) arrows, which of course just sort of splatted to our feet once released.

No love for Errol Flynn? He was by all accounts a sleazebag, but those movies were cool, and the 1938 "Robin Hood" is awesome.
