Pope Francis chose that name after Saint Francis of Assisi, the barefoot radical who gave up his wealth to live among lepers, animals, & the poor. A man who didn’t see nature as a resource, but as “a mirror of God.” In a world where profit trumps life, that name was a provocation.

That was not my point - it was that commentators have largely misinterpreted the result of the US elections as a swing to Trumpism, rather than a failure of the Dems to mobilise the anti-Trump majority - precisely because of their neglect of key issues for working people and disadvantaged groups
