From my understanding of KWS the IDV types are configurable. Problem is when they come to implement this in the US (which I can see happening at some point) IDV and Face Scan are not available there.

YOTI is perfectly usable. Granted their documentation sucks. It would also future-proof their IDV.

Oh wait I just double checked their blog post apparently ID verification was meant to be there??? Have they forgot to turn it on???

Now for me that's fine I look old and dishevelled. For other people though this is going to be a problem.

My main question to @bsky.app - why implement KWS when it's just going to use YOTI (a separate IDV service) anyway and only allow for face scans instead of a standard ID verification?

YOTI Face Scan is dogshit from my experience with testing it heavily. But that's whatever. What is very annoying though is the fact that if you look young, there is no remediation if you fail the face scan. Instead of using a scan of your ID, it just tries to guess if you're 18+.

That leaves you with Face Scan. This isn't even managed by Epic Games. They use A SEPARATE IDV SERVICE to do this - YOTI. Now I am very familiar with YOTI as I've been working with their integrations. I have my gripes with it but it is a trustworthy service. The KWS integration for it is ass though.

KWS is a bunch of shit (at least the integration Bluesky have implemented). You have two options to verify - Bank Card Verification and Face Scan Verification. Bank Card? Doesn't work. Not even like a little. Just fails, and doesn't even do the whole Visa Confirmation thing.

Okay we all agree that the whole needing to verify age thing on Bluesky if you're in the UK is kinda cringe. I'm gonna come at this from a different angle though - the IDV integration they have decided to use fucking SUCKS.
