When your 3yo sees you taking cough medicine and decides he wants to take medicine but he is both simultaneously too young for and also just doesn’t even need it, you get creative. Enter: a 2.5mL combo of simple syrup (viscosity) mixed with a bit of lime juice (opacity) in a dosage cup

These were, hands down, the most popular version of the truffles this year. I was told multiple times various variations on a theme of, “You can bring these any time” and “Actually don’t give me this recipe; save me from myself.” Note to self!

I was going to make a broccoli cheese soup with homemade bread as comfort after we all went out to shovel and play in the foot of snow we received, and in practice I can’t seem to get more than propped up in bed.

I think my body is trying to tell me something.

After powering through the weekend, making food and driving through a terrible winter storm, twice, in service to family, I woke up this morning and just don’t want to do anything. The whatever illness my body’s been toying with is gaining ground, and my energy slumps as soon as I’m upright.

When you’ve been making chocolate desserts and have some melted chocolate left over but you just cannot have another bite, what do you do with your leftovers? It’s still good; I don’t want to throw it away! Probably should’ve made chocolate spoons for tomorrow’s coffee :(

Honestly, singing (singe-ing?) my fingertips on a 250*F sheet pan is probably the best prepping injury I could have today after the late night 3 had last night 🫩

Currently in the oven: Chex mix, my personal holiday kryptonite.

On deck: an absurd amount of mom’s mocha brickle cookies, stuffed peppadews, cranberry jalapeño dip, and these adorable pumpkin-shaped dinner rolls that I totally forgot about until just now dammit I knew I forgot the twine 🤦🏻‍♀️

On today’s truffle docket: chocolate chip cookie dough and possibly chocolate ganache. I don’t have the chopped hazelnuts I’d like to roll those in but that’s okay, that can wait until later this week.

Yesterday I cleaned out the fridge in preparation for all the things I’m making for the holiday events next week. 💪🏻 I wish the weekend was like two days closer to the holiday so I had more non-work time to prepare. I’m not sure why I decided this year I’d make truffles, but I have, so let’s go!

Tonight is dress rehearsal before 4 performances in 2 days. He came home yesterday saying stage crew won’t take a bow afterward, but I bought him flowers anyway (shh).
