Lindsay contacted me with secret footage of her disabled son being neglected in a care home, eating from a bin.

Sylvia saw the report and emailed us with footage of her blind son in a different home.

They'd never met, now they're campaigning together for law change.

Only now, 4 years on, has the social housing regulator judged the council’s housing to be safe and acceptable. It removed the special notice yesterday.

Lifeways is the UK’s largest provider of supported living for adults with complex needs.

Last year it’s revenue rose to £295 million.

It’s CEO - who I interview in this film - earns £923,000.

Yet we have exposed serious neglect of disabled people across multiple services.

The minister made the announcement during a speech to the Crisis Homelessness Summit on Tuesday morning.

Labour MP @paulabarkermp.bsky.social, who says she has previously pushed for the extension of Awaab’s Law to temporary accommodation, welcomed the news.

NEW: Homelessness Minister @rushanaraalibgs.bsky.social has suggested the govt is looking at applying Awaab’s Law (which places a strict time limit on landlords doing repairs) to Temporary Accommodation.

TA is often among the most poorly regulated and maintained housing. It would be a big change.

NEW: Speaking at the Crisis Homelessness Summit, the Mayor of Greater Manchester @andyburnham.bsky.social says that of the 1.5 million homes the Labour govt has promised to build in this parliament, 500,000 should be social homes.

So far the govt has NOT committed to a specific number.

President Trump is holding a press conference in which he appears to be blaming President Zelensky not only for the continuation of the war in Ukraine but also the start of it.

Awaab’s Law - named after two year-old Awaab Ishak who died in December 2020 in a mould-infested flat in Rochdale owned by a housing association- was announced by the previous government two years ago.

It proposed strict time-limits on councils and housing associations carrying out repairs.

Angela Rayner said a phased approach will "provide for an initial period of testing and learning to ensure the reform is being delivered in a way that benefits social tenants...and to make sure the new legal requirements are operating effectively."

Shelter CEO Polly Neate told ITV News:

"...today’s announcement means social housing tenants will have to wait years longer for this vital protection. These delays to implementation represent a real risk to the health and safety of tenants, and puts lives at risks."

The news was published in a Written Ministerial Statement by
Angela Rayner.

Seemingly pre-empting criticism she says:

"the phased approach...in no way means social landlords have any leeway when it comes to meeting their existing duties to address dangers to health and safety"

Other hazards including “excess cold and excess heat; falls; structural collapse; fire, electrical and explosions” won’t be subject to strict time limits until 2026, with no specific date given.

All other dangerous hazards won't be be subject to the law until 2027.
