A couple things on this.

Koivunen very lackluster through 2 games, but not enough to earn a demotion.

He wasn't demoted as much as he was the only roster option to be eligible to be sent down to WB/S without waivers. Other options were sending Kindel or Brunicke back to juniors.

It was decent throughout. Penguins are a way better watch so far this year than the past 2

Geno opens the season 1-4-5 in his first 2 games, most points he's ever had after 2 games. He's figured in on 5 of Pens' 7 goals.

He finished strong. I still have no confidence in anything he does

It's really too bad the Penguins muffed their time with Karlsson because it really could have been cool.

Dubas did a great job acquiring him, but did such a horrendous job with the Graves and Jarry contracts to neuter their ability to ice a real team

I think it was probably both because Karlsson beats to his own drum and Sullivan seemed like a control freak

I think the Olympics being this year and the potential of a contender trading for him is going to be the main driving force for what I think will be a great year for him

I like the contrast between the last two goals for the Penguins.

Crosby from Malkin

I believe Evgeni Malkin is now tied for the points lead (4) in the NHL with that assist

Great to see Brunicke pop his first goal in. He, Kindel, and Hallander all on the ice for that goal

Jarry has never played in a way that has helped the Penguins. When you want to win he either plays like crap or gets injured. When you want a better draft pick he will rip off some the best hockey he has played in years.

they'll bury him in the ahl the second they feel murashov has gotten enough work down there. certainly depends on if silovs can do his part

I've already had my fill of Jarry this season

A lot greater than zero chance that we find out how restrictive Mike Sullivan was with Erik Karlsson

I say this with acknowledging I think that the faceoff stat is pretty overrated, but Ben Kindel has shown some ability on them

This better not be Geno's last home opener

They aren't far off from being good, but not having the triangle on the logo gives it a practice jersey look.

I like it better than the diagonal Pittsburgh jerseys. The Snoop jersey was ruined by not using the Robo Penguin shoulder patch. The white one was just a complete abomination.

The Penguins have yellow helmets on in warmups which would suggest a surprise third jersey like the Kings did.

My over the top reaction to the Rangers opening night loss is that they are going to be like the 2024-25 Penguins, but with better goaltending.
